EU calls for increased use of emissions trading, invites public feedback 03.28.07, 7:48 AM ET
BRUSSELS (AFX) - The European Commission said it has issued a statement calling for increased use of emissions trading and environmental taxes, and has invited member states, other institutions and the public to give their opinion on the matter. The commission said market-based instruments such as emissions trading, environmental taxes and targeted subsidies have 'proven to be cost-effective means of achieving policy goals'. The paper aims to stimulate a public debate on how these instruments can be used more widely and effectively for environmental and energy policy purposes at an EU and national level. The commission said is now inviting reactions to the green paper from other EU institutions, Member States, all stakeholders and the public. frances.robinson@afxnews.com fr/rfw COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2007.
